About this trail

West of Coimbatore, the Sadivayal checkpost marks the start of a long climb towards Siruvani on the slopes of the Western Ghats. The first stretch is open, dry deciduous woodland; higher up, the trees close in and the air turns damper as moist deciduous forest takes over. The route is 7 km each way and takes about 8 hours, graded tough. Elephants are frequent in this area, and tigers, sloth bears, spotted deer and monkeys also live here, along with many birds and butterflies. For fit trekkers ready for a long day on steep ground.

Out and back: 7 km each way

When to go: Best from October to March, after the monsoon, when streams run full and the air is clear. Expect rain and leeches from June to September, and hot afternoons in the foothills from April.
