About this trail

This walk follows the forested bank of the Aliyar canal in the foothills beyond Pollachi, with the water on one side and dry deciduous forest on the other. The path stays level, so the 8 km one-way route takes about 3 hours at an unhurried pace, and a forest vehicle takes you to the start and brings you back from the end. Birds are the main company, and the forest is also home to sambar deer, Indian gaur and elephants. It is an easy outing that suits families and beginners.

One way: 8 km, with forest transport to the start and back to the reception point

When to go: Best from October to March, after the monsoon, when streams run full and the air is clear. Expect rain and leeches from June to September, and hot afternoons in the foothills from April.
