About this trail

Manambolly is a forest range of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve on the Valparai side of the hills. The trail stays mostly under a tall semi-evergreen canopy with a great variety of trees, climbers and ferns, reaching about 1,100 m. It is 16 km in total and takes about 5 hours at a steady pace, graded moderate. This is lion-tailed macaque country, and the forest also holds Nilgiri langurs, elephants, Indian gaur, sambar and barking deer, porcupines and many birds; crocodiles live in the reservoirs nearby. For fit walkers comfortable with a long day in the forest.

Return trek: 16 km in total

When to go: Best from October to March, after the monsoon, when streams run full and the air is clear. Expect rain and leeches from June to September, and hot afternoons in the foothills from April.
