About this trail

Of the three treks that start at the Kalikesam eco-camp, Injikadavu goes furthest and highest. Over 18 km in total, the route climbs from dry deciduous woodland into tall evergreen forest and finally onto open grassland at around 920 m, giving a clear sense of how the vegetation changes with height in the Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary. Plan on about 7 hours. It is graded moderate, but the length makes it a full day, so it suits fit walkers with some trekking experience. Birdlife is the main draw here.

Return trek: 18 km in total

When to go: Best from October to March, after the monsoon, when streams run full and the air is clear. Expect rain and leeches from June to September, and hot afternoons in the foothills from April.
