Four days down the length of the Pandya country, from the gopurams of Madurai to the meeting of three seas at Kanyakumari. Walk the Meenakshi temple and the Thirumalai Nayak palace with a local guide and taste Madurai after dark; climb to the tower of the Andal temple at Srivilliputhur, whose outline is the emblem of the Tamil Nadu government, and try the town's palkova; see the twin temple of Nellaiappar and the seashore Murugan temple at Tiruchendur; and watch the sunrise at Kanyakumari before the ferry to the Vivekananda Rock and the Thiruvalluvar statue. The last morning ends at Padmanabhapuram, the wooden palace of the Travancore kings (closed on Mondays).
