Active pace
Best season
October to March; Thaipusam (January/February) and Skanda Sashti (October/November) are festive but crowded
The six abodes of Murugan (Arupadai Veedu) are sung in Tirumurugatruppadai, the Sangam-era guide poem by Nakkeerar, and every Tamil Murugan devotee hopes to see all six. This circuit takes them in a geographic order that keeps the long drives to one a day: the shore temple of Tiruchendur first, the two Madurai abodes (Thiruparankundram and Pazhamudircholai on the Alagar hills), the hill shrine of Palani with a dawn climb up the steps, Swamimalai near Kumbakonam, and Tiruttani in the north. Temples close for a few hours around midday, so the days start early and the drives fill the afternoons. Every temple stamp collected on the way inks the Arupadai Veedu trail in your Heritage Passport.
