About this trail

This is less a trek than a guided nature lesson. At the Slender Loris Conservation Centre in the Western Ghats foothills of Dindigul district, a 2 km one-way trail winds through dry deciduous and scrub forest, the home of the grey slender loris, a tiny nocturnal primate that feeds mainly on insects. Guides explain how the loris lives and how the centre works to protect it; since it is active at night, a daytime sighting is unlikely. The walk takes about an hour and is graded easy. Birds are plentiful. Ideal for children, students and anyone curious about lesser-known wildlife.

One way: 2 km, about 1 hour

When to go: Best from November to February, when the hills are green after the north-east monsoon and the days are cool. From March to June the dry forest gets hot: start early and carry extra water.
