About this trail

This route begins in the village of Kondappanaikanpatti on the outskirts of Salem and climbs the dry deciduous slopes of the Shevaroy hills towards Gundur. Alongside the forest, it gives a look at farming villages and the everyday life of the people who live on these hills. The trek covers 10 km in about 5 hours and is graded moderate; a light meal is included, and transport brings you back from the trail's end to the reception point at Kurumbapatti. Birdlife is the main wildlife interest. Good for walkers with some stamina who enjoy people as much as scenery.

10 km in total, with transport back from the trail end to the reception point (32 km drive)

When to go: Best from November to February, when the hills are green after the north-east monsoon and the days are cool. From March to June the dry forest gets hot: start early and carry extra water.
