Ooty Flower Show and Nilgiris Summer Festival

ஊட்டி மலர்க் கண்காட்சி

15 May – 25 May 2027

வைகாசி 1 15 May

Government Botanical Garden, Ooty

The annual flower show at the Government Botanical Garden, Ooty, centrepiece of the Nilgiris summer festival each May.

Expected: the show is held in the second half of May (May 15–25 in 2025, May 18–28 in 2026). Dates are announced by the Nilgiris administration around April–May.

The Ooty Flower Show is held every May at the Government Botanical Garden in Udhagamandalam, laid out in the 1840s on the slopes of Doddabetta. It is organised by the Tamil Nadu Department of Horticulture with the Nilgiris district administration; 2026 was its 128th edition.

The garden is filled with tens of thousands of potted plants, flower beds and large sculptures and structures built from flowers, often around a theme, along with ornamental plant competitions and displays by government departments.

The flower show is the centrepiece of the Nilgiris Summer Festival, a series of shows across the district in May: a vegetable show at Kotagiri, a spice show at Gudalur, a rose show at the Government Rose Garden in Ooty, and a fruit show at Sim's Park, Coonoor, along with boat races on Ooty Lake. Together they draw the largest crowds of the year to the hills.

A visit can be combined with a ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a walk through the tea estates around Ooty and Coonoor.

Good to know

  • Vehicles entering the Nilgiris need an e-pass (applied for online); check the current rules before you travel.
  • Weekends during the show are extremely crowded and traffic in Ooty is slow; visit on a weekday morning if you can.
  • Book the Nilgiri Mountain Railway and hotels well ahead for May.
  • Carry a light jacket and an umbrella; showers are common in the afternoon.
  • Entry tickets are sold at the garden gates; keep to the paths and do not pick flowers.
