About this trail

This trail leaves the Yelagiri plateau and heads down a stream valley through tropical dry deciduous forest to Jalagamparai falls. Going down is easy on the lungs but hard on the knees, and the return is a steady climb, which is why it is graded moderate. It is 4 km each way and takes about 5 hours. It is a well-known birding walk: minivets, grey junglefowl and peafowl are among the species here. Monkeys are common, and cobras and Russell's vipers live in the area, so watch where you step. A good half-day for reasonably fit visitors to Yelagiri.

Out and back: 4 km each way (down to the falls, then back up)

When to go: Best from November to February, when the hills are green after the north-east monsoon and the days are cool. From March to June the dry forest gets hot: start early and carry extra water.
