About this trail

Biligundulu sits on the Cauvery just upstream of Hogenakkal, and this trek keeps the river close for most of the way to the forest camp at Rasimanal. You walk through dense dry deciduous forest along the bank, with rocky stretches and wide views of the water. The route is 7 km each way, about 5 hours in all, and graded moderate mainly for its length. Otters and mugger crocodiles use the river; elephants, Indian gaur, spotted deer and wild boar move through the surrounding forest. Good for reasonably fit walkers who enjoy rivers and birdlife.

Out and back: 7 km each way

When to go: Best from November to February, when the hills are green after the north-east monsoon and the days are cool. From March to June the dry forest gets hot: start early and carry extra water.
