Muttukadu's backwaters on the East Coast Road, about 36 km south of central Chennai, have had a tourism boat house since 1984. The estuary opens to the Bay of Bengal and draws winter waterbirds. Sessions are 30 minutes. Motor and speed boats are booked per boat with a driver; pedal boats are per boat. Weekend afternoons are busiest — mornings are calmer and cooler.
