About this trail

Senbakam is the easier of the two Pachamalai treks from Top Sengattupatti. It begins on farmland, ducks through a stand of bamboo and continues under a healthy canopy laced with woody climbers, then passes a tribal hamlet before finishing at a temple on open ground with long views over the hills. It is 3 km in total and takes about 2 hours, graded easy, with a 7 am start. Birds and butterflies are plentiful, and spotted deer and wild boar live here too. A fine first trek for families and beginners from Trichy.

Return walk: 3 km in total

When to go: Best from November to February, when the hills are green after the north-east monsoon and the days are cool. From March to June the dry forest gets hot: start early and carry extra water.
