The Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram, carved and built by the Pallavas in the 7th and 8th centuries, was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. The ticketed enclosures are the Shore Temple, built under Narasimhavarman II (Rajasimha) facing the Bay of Bengal, and the Pancha Rathas, five shrines each cut from a single granite outcrop. Arjuna's Penance, the Krishna Mandapa and the cave temples on the hill are open-air. Fees follow the Archaeological Survey of India structure for World Heritage sites: one rate for Indian citizens and visitors from SAARC and BIMSTEC countries, another for other foreign nationals, free for children under 15, and a small fee for video cameras. One ticket covers both enclosures on the same day; your session is the window in which you enter. Demo listing: this is not an official ASI ticket.
